Why You Should Never Blow Out Your Candle

One may think that putting out a candle is as simple as blowing it out. However, on the contrary, that is the one thing you should never do!

There is no such thing as a soot-free wax. All organic compounds when burned will emit some carbon due to incomplete combustion. Sooting is primarily a factor of wick length (too long a wick) and flame disturbance (aka blowing out a candle with your breath). Furthermore, the melted wax might splatter and cause burns.

Instead, here are 3 correct ways you should put out a candle.

1. Use a candle snuffer to put out the flame. This protects the wax from being blown astray.

2. Using a wick dipper. This is essentially a tool to push the wick (this is only applicable for cotton wicks!) back into the melted wax.

3. Use the lid that your candle came with (only our 200g candles come with lids) to suffocate the flame. Take note that the lid may blacken from the flame. You may also use our upcoming, beautiful glass domes that can also serve as an exquisite home decor piece. Do stay tuned!

Do take note that when putting out your candle with the above methods, wait until the entire surface of the candle has melted before putting out the candle. Doing otherwise causes tunneling and it is a huge No-No! We will be sharing more about tunnelling in our next article!
